Thompson’s New Airport Terminal — A Gateway Worthy of the North
On Friday, September 18th, Thompson’s brand new airport terminal opened its doors to the public — and the North got a gateway worthy of its ambition.
The new 44,000-square-foot terminal replaces the older 14,000-square-foot facility — more than tripling the size of what travellers, northern residents, and communities have been working with for decades. This is part of a $125 million airport redevelopment that has been years in the making and is now a reality.
Thompson Regional Airport is the lifeline for dozens of fly-in communities, medical evacuations, northern supply chains, and the workers and families who keep this region moving. For too long, the infrastructure serving that lifeline reflected how the rest of Canada undervalued the North. The new terminal reflects something different. It says: the North is being taken seriously. Thompson is being invested in.
An official grand opening ceremony is planned for later in October — and when that day comes, it will be a celebration this city has earned.
To the Thompson Regional Airport Authority and to everyone who worked to bring this project to fruition — congratulations. Northern Manitoba deserves world-class infrastructure. This terminal delivers it.
